Isaiah 66:2 says, “All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declares the Lord. But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.” God’s Word has power–“for it is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul and spirit, joints and marrow, as it judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart,” Heb. 4:12.
This is why we must be very careful in any kind of interpretation – especially if we try to add something that is not there. Darby and others decided that because God told us to count His Wrath in 360-day years that the entire 490 year prophecy should therefore be converted into those shorter years. However, the fact that God specified only these 3.5 years to be counted by prophetic years should be a warning to us. He is saying these are special years that He will shorten for a reason. He does NOT want us to alter the other much longer part of Daniel’s prophecy.
But Darby did it and therefore had to change the dates of the beginning decree from Ezra to Nehemiah, and had to change the end date from the glorious baptism of Jesus Christ to the Triumphal Entrance. This also caused him to declare a dispensational separation of the Church Age and of a 7-year Wrath of God when in reality God clearly declared that His Wrath would last only 3.5 years, or 1260 days, or 42 months, a Time-Times-Half-a-Time.
